Helping

Something that has remained true over the course of the development of occupation therapy, is the desire to help. Occupational therapy has been through the holistic approach, medical model and back to the holistic approach, but something that remained the same is the pursuit to help others. Occupational therapy is a self-less profession and throughout my time learning about the decades of OT, it is evident that helping people do what they desire and need is the center. OT's have helped soldiers return back to civilian life, mothers enter the work force, and have advocated for legislation to provide opportunities and fairness for people with disabilities. Occupational therapy is centered around helping people, and it has been that way from the start.
